Shopping independently is something that I personally have become more and more aware of over the last few years. Having an idea of where my items come from, who made them and whether they're going to be around for the next 1, 3, 5 or even 10 years is something that has crept more and more onto my radar. I'm not claiming to live a really low-waste lifestyle, but I have spent much more time considering my purchases (particularly of clothes) before going ahead and buying.
Being part of the 'making' community opens up loads of options, too! When you're aware of so many amazing products, made by your friends and peers, why wouldn't you take advantage of that?! This year, I am going to attempt to have a completely #IndependentChristmas - with gifts bought from people whose businesses I love and follow, and who I know will be impacted positively from my purchases. If you're someone I'm buying for - don't worry! I promise they'll be great gifts!
In the light of #SmallBizSatUK, below are five great reasons why you should venture from the high street and explore your local markets, fairs and shops this Christmas.
So – what do you think? Will you be taking part in #SmallBisSatUK, or having a go at an #IndependentChristmas?
