Girl and Bird is closing - for good

Hello lovely friends and customers.

From midnight 31st July 2020, I will be closing Girl and Bird - for good.

(Scroll to the bottom for the ish explaination)

That sounds so final, doesn't it?! And I suppose it is. I make this announcement with a mixture of emotions - excitement, trepidation and a small amount of sadness. It's the end of an era!

In September 2020, I will be starting my PGCE in Design and Technology, to train to be a secondary teacher. I'm so excited about this new direction, and can't wait to get started! However, this inevitably means that I am going to stop running my business. Design is such an inspiration to me, and such a life changer. I can't wait to help inspire the next generation of creatives.

You may remember that back in February this year, I made a similar announcement, with the view to open for limited orders at certain times of the year. Well, a little something called Covid meant that all of my plans were thrown into disarray, and I ended up having to reopen my shop in order to make sure I had some income. Whilst this was the complete opposite of what I'd planned, I have actually really enjoyed opening again over the last four months (for the most part - I can't wait to stop having to turn my living room into a studio and then back again every day!!). I've even launched a few new products during this time.

I want to say a HUGE HUGE HUGE thank you to everyone who has ever followed, commented, visited me at markets, sent messages of support, and BOUGHT items from me with your hard earned money. I still can't quite believe that, over the last 6 years, Girl and Bird has grown from an idea and an E&W pursuit (evenings and weekends!) to my full time job. It's mad. It's mad that I've only had a handful of days over the last four years when I haven't made a sale. I am hugely grateful for that. And proud of myself.

I may expand on this more at some point but for now, a quick explanation of

I don't want to be misleading and say I will never sell again. I may, at some point in the future, come back to Girl and Bird. Who knows! I plan to keep my domain name, and I will probably continue to post, albeit sporadically, on social media.

I also have quite a lot of stock, samples and oddments that I am currently keeping in storage. At some point, I will be putting a sample sale online to move this stock on. I don't have the headspace to do it now, and I have a feeling the PGCE year is going to take up all of my energy but make sure you're signed up to my newsletter below to be updated about this.

Thank you if you've made it to the end of this rambling blog post - and let me know if you have any questions!

Oh, and if you want to order a personalised product, you have until midnight 31st July 2020!
